Hadith 940
- " إن السلف يجري مجرى شطر الصدقة ".
Ibn Adhnan says that I lent Alqamah two thousand dirhams. When the time for repayment came, I went to him and said: "Pay me back my loan." He said: "Give me respite until next year." (I accepted his request and after a year) I came to collect the loan, then after that I came a third time. He said: "You are insistent on troubling me, and you have restrained me." I said: "Yes, that is your own action." He said: "How is it my action?" I said: "Did you not narrate to me from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'A loan is equivalent to half of charity'?" He said: "Yes, it is so." He said: "Now take it."
Hadith 941
- " من أنظر معسرا فله بكل يوم صدقة قبل أن يحل الدين، فإذا حل الدين فأنظره فله بكل يوم مثليه صدقة ".
Sulaiman bin Buraidah narrates from his father, who says: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: “Whoever grants respite to a person in difficulty, he will receive the reward of giving charity of the same amount every day.” After that, I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: “Whoever grants respite to a person in difficulty, he will receive double the reward of that amount every day.” I said: O Messenger of Allah! I heard you say earlier: “Whoever grants respite to a person in difficulty, he will receive the reward of giving charity of the same amount every day.” And then I heard: “Whoever grants respite to a person in difficulty, he will receive double the reward of that amount every day?” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Until the repayment of the debt is due, he will receive the reward of giving charity of that amount every day, and when the debt becomes due (according to the agreement) but he still grants respite, (in that case) he will receive double the reward of that amount.”
