Hadith 817
- " أما أنت يا أبا بكر فأخذت بالوثقى، وأما أنت يا عمر فأخذت بالقوة ".
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him), he says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) asked Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him): "At what time do you perform the Witr prayer?" He said: "After 'Isha, in the first part of the night." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked (Sayyiduna Umar, may Allah be pleased with him): "And Umar, when do you (perform it)?" He said: "In the last part of the night." Then the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Abu Bakr, you have chosen a cautious practice, and Umar, you have adopted a strong (i.e., difficult) practice."

Hadith 818
- " إن الله زادكم صلاة وهي الوتر، فصلوها بين صلاة العشاء إلى صلاة الفجر ".
It is narrated from Abu Tamim Jaishani that Sayyiduna Amr bin Al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) delivered a sermon to the people on Friday and said: Abu Basrah has informed me that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Allah Almighty has granted you an additional prayer, which is Witr. Perform this prayer in the interval between the Isha prayer and the Fajr prayer.” Abu Tamim said: Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) took my hand and went to Abu Basrah (when he reached him, he) asked: Did you hear from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) the hadith that Amr has narrated? Abu Basrah said: (Yes) I heard this hadith from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).

Hadith 819
- " إنما الوتر بالليل ".
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Agharr Muzani (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah, morning has come and I have not performed the Witr prayer. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Witr is the prayer of the night." He said: O Messenger of Allah, morning has come and I have not performed the Witr prayer (what should I do now?). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Perform the Witr prayer."
