Hadith 788
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was praying near Maqam Ibrahim when Abu Jahl bin Hisham passed by and said: "O Muhammad! Did I not forbid you from praying here?" He spoke harsh and threatening words to you (peace be upon him). The Prophet (peace be upon him) also gave him a stern reply and rebuked him severely. He (Abu Jahl) said: "O Muhammad! With what do you threaten me? Be aware, by Allah! In this valley, I have the most supporters and people in my gathering." Allah the Exalted revealed these verses: "Let him call his council. We will call the guards of Hell." (__QUR_N__: Surah Al-‘Alaq: 17, 18) Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says: If he had called his supporters, the angels of punishment would have seized him right then.
