Silsilat al-Ahadith al-Sahihah

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Mu’adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him), he says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) led a long prayer one day. When he (peace and blessings be upon him) finished, we said: O Messenger of Allah! Today you led a very long prayer, (what was the reason?) He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Today I performed a prayer of fear and hope. I asked Allah Almighty for three things for my Ummah; He granted me two and did not accept one supplication. I asked Him not to impose others as enemies over my Ummah, and He granted me this. (Secondly) I asked Him not to drown my Ummah, and He accepted this supplication as well. And (thirdly) I asked Him to save my Ummah from fighting among themselves, but He did not accept this supplication.”
