Silsilat al-Ahadith al-Sahihah

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “(If) a donkey, a woman, or a black dog passes in front of a person praying, the prayer must be repeated.” I (Abdullah bin Samit) asked: What is the reason for specifying the black dog (excluding) yellow and red dogs? I said: I asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) the same question that you have asked me, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: “The black dog is a devil.”
