Silsilat al-Ahadith al-Sahihah

Sahl bin Mu'adh narrates from his father Sayyiduna Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When you hear the muezzin giving the call to prayer, repeat the same words that he is saying."

Sayyiduna Abu Rafi’ narrates from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would hear the mu’adhdhin (the call of the caller), he would say just as he said, but when he said «حي على الصلاة» and «حي على الفلاح», the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would say «ولا حول ولا قوة الا بالله» “There is no power to avoid evil and no strength to do good except through Allah’s help.”
