Hadith 510
- (إذا راحَ أحدُكم إلى الجُمعةِ؛ فليغتسل) .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) was delivering the sermon on Friday, when a man (and according to another narration, Sayyiduna Uthman [may Allah be pleased with him]) entered the mosque. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) asked: Why do you people delay in matters of prayer? He replied: As soon as I heard the call to prayer, I performed ablution and came. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Have you not heard this hadith of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When any one of you comes (to the mosque) for Friday (prayer), he should perform ghusl (ritual bath)."

Tawoos Yamani says: I asked Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) that people are saying that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Perform ghusl (ritual bath) on Friday and wash your heads well, even if you are not in a state of janabah (major impurity), and also apply perfume." Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) said: As for perfume, I do not know about it, but regarding ghusl, this is indeed the case.
