Hadith 299
- أبشروا وبشروا من وراءكم أنه من شهد أن لا إله إلا الله صادقا دخل الجنة ".
Abu Bakr bin Abu Musa narrates from his father, who says: I came to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) with some members of my tribe. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Rejoice and give glad tidings to those who come after you that whoever bears witness with a sincere heart that Allah alone is the true deity, he will enter Paradise." We left the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to convey this glad tidings to the people, and we met Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him). (When he learned of the situation,) he sent us back to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Who sent you back?" We said: Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) did. He asked: "Umar! Why did you send them back?" Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: (If such glad tidings are given to the people,) they will rely on it (and abandon further deeds)." Upon hearing this, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) remained silent.
Hadith 300
- " اخرج فناد في الناس: من شهد أن لا إله إلا الله وجبت له الجنة ".
Salim bin Amir says that I heard Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) say that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Go out and announce among the people that whoever testifies that Allah alone is the true deity, Paradise will become obligatory for him." He says: I went out to make the announcement, and ahead I encountered Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him). He said: Abu Bakr, where and how? I said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) has commanded me to go and announce among the people that whoever testifies that there is no one worthy of worship except Allah, Paradise will become obligatory for him. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: (Without making this announcement) return to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him); I fear that people will rely on this (good news) and abandon acting (righteously). I returned, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Why have you come back?" I told him what Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) had said. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Umar has spoken the truth."
