Silsilat al-Ahadith al-Sahihah

Abu Hassan says: Two men from the tribe of Banu Amir came to Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) and said: Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this hadith from the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him): "The people of ignorance used to say: There is bad luck in the house, the woman, and the horse." Lady Aisha became angry and said: By the One who sent down the Furqan (Qur'an) upon Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)! The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did not say such a thing. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The people of ignorance used to take bad omens from these things."

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) says: The companions mentioned bad luck to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If there were any bad luck in anything, it would be in a house, a wife, and a horse (i.e., a mount)."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If there were to be any bad omen in anything, it would be in a wife, a horse, and a house."

Sayyiduna Mukhmar bin Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) says that I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: "There is no bad omen, but there are three things in which there is goodness and blessing: the wife, the horse, and the house."
