Hadith 222
- " لا عدوى ولا صفر ولا هامة ".
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sa’ib bin Yazid bin Akht Numair, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "No disease is contagious, nor is there anything in Safar, nor is there any reality in the benefit or harm of owls (etc.)."
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "No disease is contagious, nor is there any evil omen, but I like a good omen."
- " لا عدوى ولا طيرة وإنما الشؤم في ثلاثة: المرأة والفرس والدار ".
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There is no contagious disease, nor is there any bad omen, and bad luck (or misfortune) is found in three things: a wife, a horse, and a house."
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "There is no contagious disease, nor is there any reality in bad omens, and the evil eye is true."
- " لا عدوى ولا طيرة ولا صفر ولا هامة، فقال أعرابي: ما بال الإبل تكون في الرمل كأنها الظباء فيخالطها بعير أجرب فيجربها؟ قال: فمن أعدى الأول؟ ".
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There is no contagious disease, nor is there any bad omen, and the month of Safar is not unlucky, nor does the owl (have any reality)." A Bedouin said: "Then how is it that a camel, when it walks in the sand like a deer (i.e., is healthy), but when a mangy camel mixes with it, it also gets mange?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "(Well, tell me this,) who gave the first camel mange?"
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There is no contagious disease, nor is there any reality in bad omens, and there is no ghoul."
- " لا عدوى ولا طيرة ولا هام إن تكن الطيرة في شيء ففي الفرس والمرأة والدار ، وإذا سمعتم بالطاعون بأرض فلا تهبطوا، وإذا كان بأرض وأنتم بها فلا تفروا منه ".
Saeed bin Musayyib says: I asked Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) about bad omens. He rebuked me and said: Who told you this? I disliked mentioning the name of the one who told me. Then he said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “There is no contagious disease, no bad omen, and no effect in the hooting of an owl. If there were to be bad omens, they would be in a horse, a wife, and a house. When you hear that a plague has spread in a certain area, do not go there, and if you are in that area, do not leave from it.”
- " لا عدوى ولا طيرة ولا هامة ولا صفر وفر من المجذوم كما تفر من الأسد ".
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There is no contagious disease, no bad omen, no effect of the owl's cry, and no (evil in) Safar. And flee from the leper as you would flee from a lion."
- " لا عدوى ولا طيرة ويعجبني الفأل الصالح، الكلمة الحسنة ".
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There is no contagious disease and no reality in bad omens, but I like a good omen, that is, a good word (which gives encouragement)."
- " لا عدوى ولا هامة ولا صفر، واتقوا المجذوم كما يتقى الأسد ".
Abu Zinad says: The beloved, contented sons of the noble Companions, who were the best and most excellent people, narrated to me that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There is no contagious disease, no omen in the hooting of an owl, no (evil in) Safar, and avoid the leper as one avoids a lion."
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The sick should not be brought before the healthy."
