How to seek sustenance
Hadith 174
- " إنه ليس شيء يقربكم إلى الجنة إلا قد أمرتكم به وليس شيء يقربكم إلى النار إلا قد نهيتكم عنه، إن روح القدس نفث في روعي: إن نفسا لا تموت حتى تستكمل رزقها فاتقوا الله وأجملوا في الطلب، ولا يحملنكم استبطاء الرزق أن تطلبوه بمعاصي الله، فإن الله لا يدرك ما عنده إلا بطاعته ".
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Whatever brings you closer to Paradise, I have commanded you to do it, and whatever brings you closer to Hell, I have forbidden you from it. The Holy Spirit (i.e., Jibreel, peace be upon him) has inspired in my heart: No soul will die until it has completed its provision. So fear Allah and seek (provision) with moderation. Do not let the delay in provision lead you to seek it through disobedience to Allah. (Remember!) Whatever is with Allah can only be obtained through His obedience."
Hadith 175
- " لا تستبطئوا الرزق، فإنه لم يكن عبد ليموت حتى يبلغ آخر رزق هو له، فأجملوا في الطلب: أخذ الحلال وترك الحرام ".
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not think that sustenance is delayed; no person dies until he has completed (the sustenance written in his destiny). Seek it with moderation, that is, use what is lawful and abandon what is unlawful."
