Hadith 123
- (أقيمُوا اليهوديَّ عن أخيكُم. يعني: ابن اليهوديِّ الذي أسلمَ) .
Abu Sakhr ‘Uqayli says: A Bedouin narrated to me, saying: I brought some merchandise to Madinah during the lifetime of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). After finishing my business, I said: I will certainly go to this man (meaning Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him) and listen to what he says. When I met the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), Sayyiduna Abu Bakr and Sayyiduna ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) were also with him. He sent them back, and we went to a Jew who was reading the Torah, comforting himself with it, because his extremely handsome and beautiful young son was in the throes of life and death. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: “I adjure you by the One Who sent down the Torah! Do you find mention of my attributes and my place of appearance in your Book?” He gestured with his head to indicate “No.” But his son said: Yes, by the One Who sent down the Torah! We do find mention of your attributes and your place of appearance in our Book, and I now bear witness that Allah alone is the true deity and you are the Messenger of Allah. (Upon hearing this) the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Remove this Jew from his brother.” He meant the Jew’s son, who had accepted Islam. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) arranged for his shroud, applied perfume to him, and led his funeral prayer.
