Silsilat al-Ahadith al-Sahihah

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Four characteristics of the Age of Ignorance will remain in my Ummah; they will never abandon them: (1) wailing (over the dead), (2) casting aspersions on lineage, (3) considering disease to be contagious and saying that a hundred camels got mange because of one mangy camel—so the question is, who gave the first camel mange? and (4) belief in the stars, that is, saying that rain fell because of such-and-such star."

Sayyiduna Abu Malik Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Four traits of ignorance will be found in my Ummah, and they will not abandon them: (1) boasting about lineage (family greatness), (2) defaming ancestry, (3) seeking rain through the stars, and (4) wailing."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There are three matters that belong to the time of ignorance, but the people of Islam will not abandon them: wailing, seeking rain through the stars, and doing like this." I asked Sa'id Maqbari, "What is meant by 'doing like this'?" He said: Calling out with the calls of ignorance, (that is, saying): O so-and-so! O so-and-so! O so-and-so!

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "People will not abandon two practices of the Age of Ignorance: wailing over the dead and casting aspersions on lineage."

Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Three things will remain in my Ummah: boasting about family lineage, wailing, and seeking rain through the stars."
