Silsilat al-Ahadith al-Sahihah

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me (on the occasion of Hajj) in the morning of the valley, while he was standing on his mount: "Come here, bring (some pebbles)." So I brought pebbles of the size that can be thrown between the middle two fingers, and he took them in his hand and said twice: "Pebbles like these." Then he raised his hand. The narrator of the hadith, Yahya, explained the matter by gesturing with his hand. And he said: "Beware of exaggeration in religion, for those before you were destroyed because of exaggeration in religion."
