Is forgiveness possible for sinful Muslims who die without repentance?

Hadith 38
Sayyiduna ‘Ubādah bin Sāmit (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Come and pledge allegiance to me on the condition that you will not associate anything with Allah, you will not steal, you will not commit adultery, you will not kill your children, you will not slander anyone, and you will not disobey me in matters of goodness. Whoever fulfills this pledge, his reward is with Allah. And whoever commits (any sin) and is punished for it, that will be an expiation for him. And whoever commits (any sin) and Allah conceals it for him, then his matter is with Allah; if He wills, He will punish him, and if He wills, He will forgive him.”

Hadith 39
Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) says: One night I went out and saw that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was walking alone, and there was no man with him. I thought perhaps the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) disliked that anyone should walk with him. So I began to walk in the shadow of the moon. He turned towards me, saw me, and asked: “Who is this?” I said: “It is Abu Dharr, may Allah make me a sacrifice for you.” The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Abu Dharr! Come here.” I went to him and walked with him for a while. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to me: “On the Day of Resurrection, those with much wealth will be the least in reward, except for the one whom Allah gives wealth and he scatters it to his right, left, front, and back (in charity), and does good deeds with it.” Then I continued to walk with him until the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Sit here.” The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) made me sit on a flat piece of land, around which there were stones. Then he said: “Remain seated here until I return.” Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) went towards the Harrah (the land of black stones) and disappeared from sight. He stayed there for quite a while. Then I heard him coming, saying: “Even if he steals and even if he commits adultery.” When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) reached me, I could not restrain myself and said: “O Messenger of Allah! May Allah make me a sacrifice for you! Who were you speaking to near the land of Harrah? No one was replying to you.” The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “That was Jibreel. He met me near the Harrah and said: (O Muhammad!) Give glad tidings to your Ummah that whoever dies without associating anything with Allah will enter Paradise.” I said: “Jibreel! Even if he has stolen and even if he has committed adultery?” He said: “Yes.” I said: “Even if he has stolen and even if he has committed adultery?” He said: “Yes.” I said: “Even if he has stolen and even if he has committed adultery?” He said: “Yes, and even if he has drunk alcohol.”
