Hadith 35
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), he says: The delegation of Abdul Qais came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! We belong to the tribe of Rabi’ah, and between you and us are the disbelievers of the tribe of Mudar, so we can only come to you during the sacred months. Therefore, give us a (comprehensive) command so that we may act upon it ourselves and also convey it to those who are behind us. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “I command you with four things and forbid you from four things: To have faith in Allah. Then, explaining faith, he said: To bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is the Messenger of Allah, and he folded one finger to count. To establish prayer, to pay zakat, to give one-fifth of the spoils (of war). And I forbid you from (using) gourds, green jars, wooden vessels, and vessels coated with tar.”
