Hadith 602

ـ (كان يصلِّي الهَجِيرَ (¬1) ، ثمّ يصلِّي بعدَها ركعتَينِ، ثم يصلِّي العصْرَ، ثم يصلِّي بعدَها ركعتَينِ) .
Miqdam bin Shurayh narrates from his father, and he says: I asked Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) about the manner of the prayer of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). She said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would pray the Zuhr prayer and then two rak‘ahs after it, then the ‘Asr prayer and then two rak‘ahs after it. I said: Sayyiduna ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) used to punish and forbid (people) because of these two rak‘ahs (after ‘Asr)? Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) himself used to pray this prayer, and he also knew that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had prayed this prayer. In fact, the matter is that your people, the Yemenis, are of a foolish type. These people pray during the interval between Zuhr and ‘Asr, and then after performing the ‘Asr prayer, they also pray between ‘Asr and Maghrib, and because of this, ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) punished them, and he did well.
