Hadith 528

- " البركة في ثلاث: الجماعات والثريد والسحور ".
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Salman al-Farsi (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There is blessing in three things: in gatherings, in tharid (a dish of bread and meat), and in the pre-dawn meal (suhur)."

Benefits and Issues
Receiving twenty-seven times more reward for prayer, the soul being invigorated, an increase in eagerness for prayer, the opportunity for a longer prayer, and spending more time in the remembrance of Allah, etc. These are matters on the basis of which the blessedness of congregational prayer is rightly established.

Dear readers! Reflect, for example, if you wish to perform the Zuhr prayer in congregation, then after the call to prayer (adhan), you will perform ablution (wudu), offer the Sunnah prayers, and then sit in the mosque in a state of remembrance while waiting for the congregation. After the congregational prayer, it will be easy for you to recite the post-prayer supplications (adhkar), and then you will offer the Sunnah prayers again. As a result, approximately thirty to thirty-five minutes of your time will be spent in the remembrance of Allah, whereas if you were to perform this prayer alone, you would be finished in nine or ten minutes. Furthermore, the inner peace and joy that you will attain due to the congregational prayer will be unparalleled. If a person does not feel any difference between praying alone and praying in congregation, or if he does not feel any regret or remorse when he misses the congregation, then he is as insensitive as a person whose tongue has become so tasteless and devoid of sensation that he cannot perceive more or less salt, nor even the difference between sweet and bitter. Such people should consult the scholars and regularly study the hadiths that indicate the importance of congregation with love.

It is related from the era of Umar (radi Allahu anhu) that Sulayman bin Abu Hathmah was absent from the Fajr prayer. When Sayyiduna Umar (radi Allahu anhu) went to the market, he said to Shifa, the mother of Sulayman, whose house was on the way: "Sulayman was not seen at the Fajr prayer; what is the reason?" She replied: "He was engaged in the night prayer (tahajjud), so sleep overcame him at the time of the congregation." Sayyiduna Umar (radi Allahu anhu) said: "The congregational Fajr prayer is more beloved to me than standing in prayer the entire night." [مؤطاامام مالک]

Bread that is broken and soaked in broth to make a dish is called thareed; it is easy to digest and suffices with a smaller quantity of food. For example, if a person feels hungry for two loaves of bread, thareed made from one loaf can satisfy him. Similarly, the pre-dawn meal (suhur) is also a blessed thing.
