Hadith 487

Yusuf bin Abdullah bin Salam says: I came to Abu Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) when he was suffering from the illness of death. He said to me: O my nephew! What intention or what need has brought you to this city? I said: No purpose except that there was a relationship between you and my father Abdullah bin Salam, (on that basis I have come). Abu Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) said: If I were to lie at this time, it would be very bad. I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whoever performs ablution and performs it well, then prays two or four rak‘ahs and remembers Allah in them well and with humility and devotion, then seeks forgiveness, he will be forgiven." The narrator Suhail was in doubt about the number of rak‘ahs.
