Silsilat al-Ahadith al-Sahihah

Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) says: Lady Fatimah bint Hubaysh (may Allah be pleased with her) came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: “I experience istihada (non-menstrual bleeding), so I do not become pure. Should I stop praying?” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “This is only a vein (that has burst); it is not menstrual blood. When the menstrual blood comes, then stop praying, and when it ends, wash the blood off and perform ablution for every prayer and offer the prayer, until the (menstrual) period returns.”
