Hadith 43

- " لا يا عائشة، إنه لم يقل يوما: رب اغفر لي خطيئتي يوم الدين ".
Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) says: I said: O Messenger of Allah! Ibn Jud'an used to maintain ties of kinship during the days of ignorance and feed the poor; will these good deeds benefit him? The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "No, Aisha! He never said, even for a single day: O my Lord! Forgive my sins on the Day of Resurrection."

Imam al-Albani rahimahullah writes: From this hadith, it is clearly understood that when a disbeliever accepts Islam, the good deeds he performed in ignorance are preserved. However, if he dies upon disbelief, then all his good deeds are nullified due to his disbelief.

Furthermore, from this blessed hadith it is evident that those people who died before the advent of Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa sallam cannot be called "Ahl al-Fatrah" (people of the interval) on the basis that the message of the Messengers did not reach them. For if that were the case, then Ibn Jud'an would not have been deserving of punishment, and his righteous deeds would not have been rendered void. This subject has been clarified in several ahadith. [صحيحه: 249]

A nation that has no knowledge of a bringer of glad tidings or a warner, and is completely heedless of the call of the Messengers, such a nation is called "Ahl al-Fatrah" (people of the interval).

That is, their evil deeds cannot be held against them, because such people have no concept of reward or sin. [والله اعلم۔]
