Silsilat al-Ahadith al-Sahihah

Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When Hell complained to its Lord that (due to its intensity) parts of it were consuming other parts, Allah allowed it two breaths: one breath in the winter and one breath in the summer. So the extreme cold you feel in winter is from its breath, and the extreme heat you feel in summer is also from its breath."
