Hadith 3803

Sayyiduna Hudhayfah bin Yaman (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "A long, white animal called Buraq was brought to me, (its swiftness was such that) it would place its hoof as far as its gaze could reach. I and Jibreel rode upon it until we reached Bayt al-Maqdis. The gates of the heavens were opened for us and I saw both Paradise and Hell." Hudhayfah bin Yaman said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) did not pray in Bayt al-Maqdis. But (the narrator in the chain) Zar said: I said to him: Why not, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) did pray. Hudhayfah said: Bald one! What is your name? I recognize your face, but I do not know your name. I said: I am Zar bin Hubaysh. He said: How did you know that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) prayed? I said: "The statement of Allah, the Exalted, is: «سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي أَسْرَى بِعَبْدِهِ لَيْلًا مِنَ الْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِ إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ الْأَقْصَى الَّذِي بَارَكْنَا حَوْلَهُ لِنُرِيَهُ مِنْ آيَاتِنَا إِنَّهُ هُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْبَصِيرُ» 'Glory be to Him Who took His servant by night from Masjid al-Haram to Masjid al-Aqsa, whose surroundings We have blessed, so that We might show him some of Our signs. Indeed, He is the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing.'" (17: Al-Isra: 1) He said: Do you find any mention of prayer in it? If the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had prayed, you people would also pray there, just as you pray in Masjid al-Haram. Zar said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) tied his mount to the ring to which the other Prophets (peace be upon them) used to tie theirs. Hudhayfah asked: (Was the reason for tying it) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) feared it might run away, even though Allah, the Exalted, had brought it to him?
