Silsilat al-Ahadith al-Sahihah

Sayyiduna Ruwayfi’ bin Thabit Al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that dry and fresh dates were presented before the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his companions). They ate them, and nothing remained except the pits and the inferior dates. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Do you know what this is? You—that is, the righteous and virtuous people—will continue to pass away one after another, until only people like these pits, the inferior and discarded ones, will remain.”
