Silsilat al-Ahadith al-Sahihah

Sayyiduna Abu Waqqad Al-Laithi (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, while we were sitting on a mat (or carpet): "Indeed, a tribulation will soon occur." The companions asked: O Messenger of Allah! What should we do in it? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stretched his hand towards the mat and grabbed it and said: "Do like this." Then one day the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, a tribulation will soon occur." But most people could not hear what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said. Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O people! Do you not hear what the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) is saying? They asked: What did he say? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, a tribulation will soon occur." They asked: O Messenger of Allah! What is your command for us or what should we do at that time? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Return to your first matter."
