Hadith 3178

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyidah Umm Sulaym (may Allah be pleased with her), who was the mother of Anas, had an orphan girl with her. (One day) the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) saw this girl and asked: "Are you here? You have grown up, may your age not increase." Hearing this, the orphan girl went to Umm Sulaym crying. Umm Sulaym asked: Daughter! What happened? The girl replied: The Prophet of Allah has supplicated against me that my age or my time may not be prolonged. Umm Sulaym quickly wrapped herself in her sheet and went out until she reached the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked: "Umm Sulaym! What happened to you?" She replied: O Messenger of Allah! Did you supplicate against my orphan girl? The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked: "Which one (please clarify)?" She said: My orphan girl says that you supplicated against her that her age may not increase or her time may not be prolonged. (Upon hearing this) the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) smiled and said: "Umm Sulaym! Do you not know that I made a condition with my Lord that I am a human being, I become happy and angry like other people. So, if I supplicate against any of my followers for something they do not deserve, then (Allah, for my follower) makes that supplication a means of purification, a means of cleansing, and a means of bringing him closer to Himself on the Day of Resurrection?"
