Practical explanation of "And warn your closest relatives"
Hadith 295
- (يا بَني كعبِ بن لُؤيٍّ! أنقذوا أنفسكم من النار، يا بني مُرَّة بن كعبٍ! أنقذوا أنفسكم من النار، يا بني عبد شمس! أنقذوا أنفسكم من النار، يا بني عبد منافٍ! أنقذوا أنفسكم من النار، يا بني عبد المطَّلب! أنقذُوا أنفسكم من النار، يا فاطمةُ [بنت محمد!] أنقذي نفسكِ من النار، فإنِّي لا أملكُ لكُم من الله شيئاً؛ غير أنّ لكُم رحِماً سأبُلُّها بِبِلالِها) .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: When this verse was revealed: "(O Muhammad!) Warn your close relatives," the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) called the Quraysh, and they gathered together. Then he gave a general call and a specific one, and said: "O Banu Ka'b bin Lu'ayy! Save yourselves from the Fire. O Banu Murrah bin Ka'b! Save yourselves from the Fire. O Banu Abd Shams! Save yourselves from the Fire. O Banu Abd Manaf! Save yourselves from the Fire. O Banu Abd al-Muttalib! Save yourselves from the Fire. And O Fatimah bint Muhammad! Save yourself from the Fire, for I have no power to avail you anything before Allah. Yes, I will maintain the ties of kinship that exist between us."
