Silsilat al-Ahadith al-Sahihah

Yahya bin Abu Kathir says: Ibn Abi narrated to me that his father told him that his dates were gathered in the threshing floor, and he used to look after them. He noticed that they were decreasing, so he started keeping watch. Suddenly, a creature appeared that looked like a boy about to reach puberty. He greeted him with salam, and the creature replied to the greeting. He asked: "Who are you, a jinn or a human?" The creature said: "I am a jinn." He said: "Give me your hand." The creature gave his hand, and it was like the hand and hair of a dog. He asked him: "Is this how the jinn are created?" The creature said: "The jinn know that among them are those even more repulsive than me." He asked: "What made you take (the dates)?" The creature said: "It reached us that you like to give charity, so we wanted to take something from your grain." He asked: "How can we be safe from you?" The creature said: "By this verse, meaning Ayat al-Kursi." The next day, his father went to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and told him the whole story. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The wicked one has spoken the truth."
