Silsilat al-Ahadith al-Sahihah

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) that he said: A mouse came and started pulling the wick of the lamp. A girl began to scold and chase it away. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to the girl: "Leave it." The mouse brought the wick and dropped it on the mat upon which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was sitting, and a portion of the mat, about the size of a dirham, was burnt. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When you go to sleep, extinguish the lamp, for Satan incites such animals to do such (mischief), and in this way, they will burn you."
