Hadith 228

Saeed bin Musayyib says: I asked Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) about bad omens. He rebuked me and said: Who told you this? I disliked mentioning the name of the one who told me. Then he said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “There is no contagious disease, no bad omen, and no effect in the hooting of an owl. If there were to be bad omens, they would be in a horse, a wife, and a house. When you hear that a plague has spread in a certain area, do not go there, and if you are in that area, do not leave from it.”
