- " إذا خرجت اللعنة من في صاحبها نظرت، فإن وجدت مسلكا في الذي وجهت إليه وإلا عادت إلى الذي خرجت منه ".
Iyzar bin Jarwal Hadrami says: Among us there was a man named Abu Umair, who had a bond of brotherhood with Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him). Sayyiduna Abdullah used to come and go to his house. One day he came, but Sayyiduna Abu Umair (may Allah be pleased with him) was not at home. He sat with his wife. The wife sent her maidservant for some work, but she delayed in returning. (Because of this) she said: "May Allah curse my maidservant, she has taken too long." Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) went outside and sat at the door. When Sayyiduna Abu Umair (may Allah be pleased with him) returned, he said to him: "You were sitting with your brother's family." He replied: "That is what I did, but she sent the maidservant for some work and she delayed a lot, because of which she cursed her. And I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'When a curse is invoked by the one who curses, it is seen whether the person upon whom the curse is invoked is deserving of it. If (he is deserving), then fine, otherwise the curse returns to the one who uttered it.' And I disliked sitting on the path of curses."
