Silsilat al-Ahadith al-Sahihah

Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When Allah intends good for His servant, He hastens his punishment in this world (i.e., through difficulties and trials, He creates means for the forgiveness of his sins), and when He intends evil for a servant, He withholds his punishment for his sins (in this world), until He gives him his full punishment on the Day of Resurrection."
