Silsilat al-Ahadith al-Sahihah

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "As long as I leave you (i.e., do not give you a new command), you also leave me (i.e., do not ask about new matters). However, when I give you a command, then adopt it. (Remember that) the nations before you were destroyed because of asking too many questions of their prophets and differing with them."
