Hadith 2144

Sayyiduna Zubair bin Al-Awwam (may Allah be pleased with him) says: Khalid bin Haram migrated towards the land of Abyssinia. On the way, a snake bit him and he passed away. Then this verse was revealed: «وَمَنْ يَخْرُجْ مِنْ بَيْتِهِ مُهَاجِرًا إِلَى اللَّـهِ وَرَسُولِهِ ثُمَّ يُدْرِكْهُ الْمَوْتُ فَقَدْ وَقَعَ أَجْرُهُ عَلَى اللَّـهِ وَكَانَ اللَّـهُ غَفُورًا رَحِيمًا» "And whoever leaves his home as an emigrant to Allah and His Messenger, and then death overtakes him, his reward has already become incumbent upon Allah. And Allah is Most Forgiving, Most Merciful."

Zubair bin Al-Awwam says that I was expecting him and waiting for his arrival in Abyssinia. When I received the news of his death, I was overcome with grief and sorrow, because whoever migrated from the Quraysh, he had some wife, child, or relative with him, and there was no man from the Banu Asad bin Abd al-Uzza tribe with me, nor did I have hope from anyone else besides him.
