Silsilat al-Ahadith al-Sahihah

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) says that we were sitting with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), when suddenly a young man was coming, crossing a mountain path. When we saw him (once), we kept staring at him. We said: If only this young man would spend his youth, energy, and strength in the way of Allah. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) heard our words and said: "Is the way of Allah only that a person is martyred? (No, rather) whoever serves his parents is also in the way of Allah, whoever supports his family is also in the way of Allah, and whoever strives to keep himself chaste is also in the way of Allah. And whoever strives for competition (showing off), then he is on the path of Taghut (Satan)."
