- " أما أبوك فلو كان أقر بالتوحيد، فصمت وتصدقت عنه نفعه ذلك ".
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) says: As bin Wa'il made a vow in the days of ignorance that he would slaughter one hundred camels (but he died before fulfilling the vow). His son Hisham bin As slaughtered fifty camels for his share, and the other son, Sayyiduna Amr, asked the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) about it. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "If your father had affirmed the oneness of Allah and you had fasted or given charity on his behalf, it would have benefited him."
Those who die in a state of disbelief (kufr) or polytheism (shirk), all their righteous deeds are rendered void, supplications for their forgiveness become futile, and such a person is deprived in the Shari‘ah of all permissible forms of conveying reward (isal al-thawab) as well. However, if any disbeliever (kafir) or apostate (murtadd) embraces Islam, then the good deeds performed during the state of disbelief, the state of apostasy, and prior to apostasy are preserved for them, and due to these deeds, they are granted reward and recompense.
For a detailed discussion, refer to the section in this very book titled “The Significance of Good Deeds Performed by a Disbeliever Before Acceptance of Islam.”
