Silsilat al-Ahadith al-Sahihah

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) passed by Sayyiduna Hassan (may Allah be pleased with him) while he was reciting poetry aloud in the mosque. He glared at him, but he (Hassan) said: I used to recite poetry in the mosque even when someone better than you (i.e., the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him) was present in the mosque. Then he turned towards me and said: I ask you by Allah, did you hear the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "(Hassan!) Respond on my behalf (in the form of poetry). O Allah! Help him with the Holy Spirit."
