Silsilat al-Ahadith al-Sahihah

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that he was riding on a camel with the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), and they had marked the camel’s face with a branding mark. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: “Abbas! What is this mark?” He replied: “We used to put this mark in the days of ignorance.” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Do not use branding marks.” The Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) intention was to prohibit branding on the face.
