Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that when the news of Najashi’s death was received, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Perform his funeral prayer.” The Companions said: O Messenger of Allah! How can we perform the funeral prayer for an Abyssinian man who was not a Muslim? In response, Allah the Exalted revealed this verse: “Indeed, among the People of the Book are those who believe in Allah and in what was revealed to you and what was revealed to them, being humble before Allah, and they do not exchange the verses of Allah for a small price.” (Surah Aal-e-Imran: 199)
