Silsilat al-Ahadith al-Sahihah

Sayyiduna Thawban (may Allah be pleased with him) says: Sayyidah bint Hubayrah (may Allah be pleased with her) came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and she had large gold rings on her hand. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) began to strike her hand. She complained to Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her). Thawban says: When the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) went to Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her), I was also with him. Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) took the chain she was wearing around her neck in her hand and said: Abu al-Hasan gave this to me as a gift. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Fatimah! Would you like people to say that there is a chain of fire in the hand of Fatimah, the daughter of Muhammad?" Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) left and did not sit there. Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) sold that chain and with its price bought a slave and set him free. When the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) received this news, he said: "All praise is due to Allah, who saved Fatimah from the Fire."
