Silsilat al-Ahadith al-Sahihah

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) went to the house of Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her), but upon seeing a curtain at the (house) door, he did not enter. Although (previously, the routine was that) whenever he came, he would first meet Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her). When Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) came home and found Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) sad and worried, he asked her: What has happened to you? She said: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came to me, but did not enter (the house). Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) went to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! It was very hard on Fatimah that you went there but did not go to her. He (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “What have I to do with the world? What have I to do with decoration?” Upon hearing this, he went to Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) and conveyed to her the words of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). She replied: (O Ali!) Go and ask the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), what should I do with this curtain? He (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Tell Fatimah to send this curtain to the people of so-and-so.”
