- (إنّ الكافر ليزيدُه الله عز وجل ببكاءِ أهلهِ عذاباً) .
Abdullah bin Abu Malikah says: I was with Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them), and we were waiting for the funeral of Umm Aban bint Uthman bin Affan. Amr bin Uthman was also with him. Meanwhile, Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) arrived, guided by a leader. I think his guide informed him about the gathering of Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). He came forward and sat with me. Now I was between Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) and Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them). A sound (of weeping) came from the house. Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "The deceased is punished because of the weeping of his family over him."
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) said: We were on a journey with the Commander of the Faithful, Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him). When we reached the place of Baida, he saw a man under the shade of a tree and ordered me: Go and see who this man is. I went and saw that it was Suhaib. I returned and informed him that it was Suhaib. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Tell him to join us. I said: He has his wife and children with him. He said: Even if he has his wife and children, he should still join us. When we reached Madinah, after a few days, the Commander of the Faithful was attacked. Suhaib came and said: Oh my brother! Oh my companion! Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Did you not hear the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say that the deceased is punished because of the weeping of his family over him?
(Hearing this) I went to Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) and presented before her the hadith narrated by Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: By Allah, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did not narrate any such hadith that the deceased is punished because of someone’s weeping. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah increases the punishment of the disbeliever because of the weeping of his family over him." Then Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: He is Allah who makes one laugh and cry (and no bearer of burden shall bear the burden of another).
Whereas in the narration of Ayyub, which he narrated from Ibn Abu Malikah and he from Qasim, it is mentioned that when Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) came to know about the hadith of Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them), she said: The companions from whom you narrate hadith to me are neither liars nor were they ever rejected, but mistakes can occur in hearing.
