Silsilat al-Ahadith al-Sahihah

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "A high rank is decreed for a man by Allah Almighty, but he does not attain it through his deeds. Therefore, Allah Almighty continues to test him with trials that he dislikes, until he reaches his (appointed) rank."
