Silsilat al-Ahadith al-Sahihah

Abdullah bin Abu Abdullah bin Hubar bin Aswad narrates from his father, and he from his grandfather, Sayyiduna Hubar (may Allah be pleased with him), that he married off his daughter and there was a one-sided drum and a daf with them (and they were using them). When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came out and heard the sounds, he asked: "What is this (why are these sounds being made)?" It was said that Hubar has married off his daughter. So the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Announce the marriage, announce the marriage, this is marriage, not fornication." One narrator says: I asked: What is «كبر»? He said: It is called a big drum. And a type of musical instrument is called «غرابيل».
