Silsilat al-Ahadith al-Sahihah

Sayyiduna Abu Mas’ud Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) decided to send me as a collector of zakat and said: “Abu Mas’ud! Go (and collect zakat), but beware lest you come on the Day of Resurrection and there is a camel of charity, which you had embezzled, crying out on your back.” He said: (If this is the warning) then I will not go. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “(If you wish to be so cautious) then I do not compel you.”
