Silsilat al-Ahadith al-Sahihah

Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded us to do four things and forbade us from five things: (The five things he permitted are these): (1) To close the door when going to sleep, (2) To tie the mouth of the waterskin, (3) To cover the vessels, and (4) To extinguish the lamp (when going to sleep), because Satan does not open a closed door, does not untie the mouth of a waterskin, does not remove the cover from a vessel, and this sinful animal, the mouse, can burn the house along with its inhabitants because of the burning lamp. (The five things he forbade are these): (1) Not to eat with the left hand, (2) Not to drink with the left hand, (3) Not to walk with only one shoe, (4) Not to wrap the sheet by first placing it on the right hand and left shoulder and then on the left hand and right shoulder (or not to wrap the sheet in such a way from all sides that even the hands cannot come out), and (5) Not to sit in the posture of habwah (sitting with knees drawn up and arms wrapped around them) in such a way that the private parts become exposed.
