Definition and rulings of Umri and Ruqba
Hadith 1308
- (من أُعْمِر شيئاً فهو لمُعمَرِهِ؛ محياهُ ومماتهُ، ولا ترقبوا؛ فمن أرقب شيئاً؛ فهو سبيله. وفي رواية: سبيلُ الميراث) .
Sayyiduna Zaid bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever is given something as 'Umra, it will belong to him, whether he lives or dies. Do not give anything as 'Ruqba; whoever gives something as 'Ruqba, it will be subject to the rules of inheritance."
