Hadith 1260

Sayyiduna ‘Irbad bin Sariyah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: We camped with the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) at Khaybar, and the Companions were also with him. The chief of Khaybar was a very rebellious and deceitful man. He turned to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: “O Muhammad! Are you the one who will slaughter our donkeys, eat our fruits, and seize our women?” The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) became angry and said: “O Ibn ‘Awf! Mount your horse and announce: Beware! Only a believer will enter Paradise, and (also announce) gather for prayer.” The people gathered, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) led them in prayer. Then he stood up and said: “Can any man, reclining on his couch, imagine that Allah has only forbidden those things which are mentioned in the Noble Qur’an? Beware! By Allah! I have given some commands, offered admonition, and prohibited some things. (The rulings I have stated) are as many as those in the Noble Qur’an or even more. Allah, the Exalted, has not made it lawful for you to enter the houses of the People of the Book without permission, to strike their women, or to eat their fruits, as long as they continue to fulfill the obligations that are upon them.”
