Hadith 1229

Sayyiduna Umair (may Allah be pleased with him), who was the slave of Abi al-Lahm, says: I came with my masters, our intention was to migrate, and we reached near Madinah. They themselves entered Madinah and left me behind. I was extremely hungry. Some people who were leaving Madinah passed by me and said: (It is better that) you go into Madinah and eat the fruits of the gardens. So I entered a garden and broke off two bunches filled with dates. (By Allah’s will) the owner of the garden arrived, took me to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and told him the whole story. I was wearing two garments. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to me: “Which garment is better?” I pointed to one of the garments. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “(This garment) you keep for yourself.” And he gave the other garment to the owner of the garden and set me free.
