Silsilat al-Ahadith al-Sahihah

Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), while he was delivering a sermon in Madinah, say: "O people! Indeed, Allah has given an ambiguous indication regarding (the prohibition of) alcohol. It is possible that soon Allah will reveal a (definitive) ruling about it. (So you should do this:) Whoever has any alcohol, let him sell it or benefit from it." Not much time had passed when the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Indeed, Allah has made alcohol unlawful. After the revelation of this verse, if anyone has alcohol, he can neither drink it nor sell it."
